The ABC’s of Literacy Programs: A Parent’s Guide to Literacy Interventions
December 9, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm PST

Learn about the different literacy programs available to support kids struggling with reading and writing.
About this event
In this webinar, we’ll take a deep dive into common literacy programs proven to help learners who are behind in reading and writing, or who have learning differences and need additional literacy support. We’ll examine the underlying sensory-cognitive functions required for learners to develop literacy skills and the multisensory, evidence-based literacy programs that work to systematically build these skills. We’ll review the advantages of certain instructional settings where children typically engage with specialists to remediate literacy, like 1-on-1, in pairs, in small groups, and as a whole classroom. Finally, we’ll discuss the strategies parents and caregivers can use to reinforce and accelerate progress at home.
Some of the programs we’ll cover in the webinar include:
- Orton-Gillingham®—a structured multisensory phonics methodology designed to help struggling readers learners who need help with basic phonics, fluency, and other foundational reading skills.
- Wilson Reading System®—a structured intensive intervention literacy program based on phonological-coding research that directly and systematically teaches the structure of the English language for learners who need help with spelling, reading fluency, reading comprehension, and vocabulary.
