Kicking off 2024 strong, the Learnfully team headed to the Hamlin School in San Francisco, California in early January to engage their 75 educators in our Executive Function Simulation program. The Hamlin School is a K-8 private day school that educates girls to meet the challenges of their time and inspires them to become extraordinary thinkers, innovators and leaders.

During our time together, Learnfully-trained educational specialists facilitated a strategy-led discussion on what it feels like to have executive dysfunction and how to support their learners through these challenges. Our team also covered strategies and activities for the classroom to help grow executive function skills in their learners. Educators left the program more aware of their students’ needs in ways they haven’t been able to achieve in the past.

Dr. Sheila Murphy, SVP of Education at Learnfully commented, “The teachers at Hamlin were highly engaged and asked some of the best questions I’ve ever had asked of us. Their post simulation reflection time was filled with insight, vulnerability and a strong motivation to support their learners. The students of Hamlin are very fortunate to have these amazing educators as their teachers and mentors!”

Melissa Skiles, Director of Community Well-Being at Hamlin, mentioned, “This year, we really wanted to go deeper in our professional development for supporting neurodiverse and neurodivergent learners. We were looking for something that captured the essence of challenge and also how to better support our learners in the classroom considering the demands that they experience–especially as we prepare them to enter highly competitive high schools around the country. The simulation was expertly crafted and exactly what our teachers wanted–real examples of the struggles many learners face but also the solutions to how to help them thrive in spite of those challenges. The Learnfully team was skilled, knowledgeable, and well-prepared for all of our questions and ideas with great resources to offer; they were exemplary partners that we look forward to collaborating with again.”

Feedback from the educators included the following:

“It was great/stressful/overwhelming to be in the role of the student. It helps me realize the impact that our way of teaching can have on our students.”

“This was incredibly valuable. I appreciate the thought and care put into the training.”

“I appreciate the immersive experience and varied activities of the simulation.”

“All human beings are unique and special and teachers can choose varied techniques and provide choices for students to be more comfortable.”

“Never forget: All kinds of different learners”

“This team is very experienced and knowledgeable. I have extensive SpEd , assessment and intervention background and was really pleased with this team and their resources.”

“To be more aware of my student’s needs and the way I teach.”

Quote- All human beings are unique and special and teachers can choose varied techniques and provide choices for students to be more comfortable.
