SUMMARY:K-12: Unlocking Reading & Writing Through Executive Function
DESCRIPTION:Working memory\, organization\, and self-monitoring are important EF skills that reading and writing depend on.\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details:\n\nResearch indicates a strong correlation between executive function (EF) and a student’s performance in school. Skills governing a child’s ability to organize\, self-monitor\, and utilize working memory can heavily impact their abilities in reading and writing. \n\nDo you notice that your child: \n\n\n Writes slowly due to planning and handwriting challenges?\n Reads to the end of the page and can’t remember what they read\, or frequently has to reread passages?\n Avoids school work\, especially longer reading or writing assignments?\n Takes a long time to complete schoolwork?\n \nIn our webinar\, we’ll discuss these issues\, along with the other roles EF plays in reading and writing. We’ll also talk about strategies to improve EF in learners. The webinar is a 30-minute panelist discussion on Learnfully’s EF-based reading & writing workshops\, followed by an opportunity for attendees to directly interact with the speakers in a live Q&A session. \n\nAbout the Speakers:\n\nThea Slingland’s experience with neurodiversity started at a very young age. She was raised with a profoundly dyslexic brother\, and she has seen firsthand the importance of early intervention. Her experiences shaped her career and led her to specialize in dyslexia to bring evidence-based\, multi-sensory learning best practices to her teaching. She adds an informed voice to the growing conversation around neurodivergence and learning. \n\nThea has a BS in Early Childhood Growth and Development and a Master’s in Education. She is dual-credentialed in Multiple Subjects and Education Specialist: Mild/Mod disabilities with an Added Authorization: Autism and has over 20 years of classroom experience. \n\nJennifer Onoyeyan is passionate about understanding individualized learning modalities for students with learning differences. She uses her expertise in mindfulness teaching\, along with her love of psychology\, to amplify her impact as an education specialist. Jennifer is a proponent of developing executive function skills in a scientifically-based approach to help children succeed in school and beyond. Understanding that each child learns differently\, she feels that every child’s uniqueness deserves to be nurtured\, respected\, and appreciated to unlock their learning potential. \n\nJennifer has a Master’s in Psychology and Education with an emphasis in spirit\, mind\, and body from Columbia University. She also holds a BA in Psychology and Spanish from Loyola Marymount and has undertaken Social-Emotional Learning/ Mindfulness Education at Teachers College at Columbia University. She brings over 10 years of education experience from early-child development through SAT test prep. \n\nRegister Now\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Similarities and Differences of ADHD and Executive Dysfunction
DESCRIPTION:Executive Function is the precursor to learning—learn about the similarities and differences of ADHD and Executive Dysfunction.\n  \n\nEvent Details: \nThere has been an uptick in the number of children and adults diagnosed with ADHD over the past few years due to a heightened cognizance about the lack of skills and prevalent symptoms that define the diagnosis. One critical foundational skill area that can be lacking in ADHD diagnosed learners is that of executive function (EF)—the set of cognitive skills that give us the ability to set goals\, plan\, and generally get things done. Individuals experiencing difficulty with executive function find it hard to sustain attention\, follow multiple-step directions\, regulate emotions and initiate tasks. There is a very strong correlation between ADHD and executive dysfunction—a brain’s inability to control thoughts\, emotions and behavior. Although executive dysfunction is common with conditions like ADHD\, Autism\, and Dyslexia\, it can also stand alone without other accompanying learning differences or diagnoses as well.\nParents and educators alike are increasingly interested in the early detection of EF weaknesses\, and the age-appropriate strategies that can be leveraged to strengthen EF skills in their learners. In this webinar\, we’ll compare and contrast ADHD and executive function and discuss how you can strengthen EF skills with or without a diagnosis. \n\nThe webinar will consist of a 30-minute panelist discussion followed by an opportunity for attendees to directly interact with the speakers in a live Q&A session. \n\nAbout the Speakers \nThis webinar is presented by Jess Corinne\, the Head of Educational Services for Learnfully. Jess has 20+ years of neurodiversity experience\, dedicating her life to providing learning support to families using multi-sensory\, evidence-based curriculums. At Learnfully\, she oversees the administration of academic assessments\, the development of differentiated instructional plans\, and instructional implementation for children with or without diagnoses. Learnfully focuses primarily on building learner confidence while developing skills in reading\, comprehension\, spelling\, writing\, math\, social skills\, Executive Functioning\, and beyond. \n\nDr. Sheila Murphy is the founder of Alma Bonita Animal Rescue and an educational consultant focused on equity\, diversity\, social-emotional learning\, and inclusion. Sheila went into education specifically to advocate and address gaps in the system that failed her own three sons. With a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership\, a Master’s Degree in Education\, a Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration\, and as a Certified Life Coach\, Sheila has focused her life’s work on giving to those who are most vulnerable in this world. \n\nDr. Georgia Bozeday\, Ed.D. serves as the Director of Education Services at Rush Neurobehavioral Center. She has her Ed.D.from National-Louis University in Curriculum and Social Justice\, Post Masters Certification Programs in School Administration\, Learning Disabilities\, Masters in Early Childhood Education\, and her Bachelors from Northwestern University in Speech and Language Pathology. She specializes in a number of areas including Executive Functioning. \n\nMike Smith is an Educational Specialist and Executive Function Coach with expertise in curriculum development and assessments of social-emotional learning. He’s part of the educational support team at Rush Neurobehavioral Center.

SUMMARY:What the Dys? Understanding Dyslexia\, Dysgraphia\, Dyspraxia & Dyscalculia
DESCRIPTION:Learn strategies to support learning for those with Dyslexia\, Dysgraphia\, Dyspraxia & Dyscalculia.\n  \n\nEvent Details: \n1 in 5 learners are formally diagnosed with a learning disability\, though experts believe that number is much higher. In a recent study\, Understood.org found that as a result of distance learning\, nearly three-quarters (72%) of parents have become aware of or noticed their children may have learning challenges or differences. Not only is awareness of learning differences growing\, but so is the anxiety and confusion that follows. Caregivers are unsure of who to ask for support\, what symptoms would warrant a diagnosis\, and where to turn for treatment. We have been in your shoes and are here to help! Join our panelists as they break down each of the “dys” diagnoses—Dyslexia\, Dysgraphia\, Dyscalculia\, Dyspraxia—as well as their signs\, symptoms\, supports\, and strategies in order to equip and empower our audience to bolster their child’s strengths and develop areas of need with urgency. SUMMARY:Know Your LDA Terminology: Learning Disability\, Disorder\, Dysfunction\, Difference
DESCRIPTION:LD Awareness Month is the perfect time to brush up on your LD terminology—join us for this webinar where we’ll cover a wide range of terms.  \n\nEvent Details: \nNeurodivergent learners and their caregivers often require services from a variety of specialists and navigating the path to awareness can be rather challenging. An increased understanding and recognition of the 4 learning Ds—differences\, disorders\, disabilities\, and dysfunctions—often gives caregivers and educators the awareness that they need to best support their learners in and out of the classroom. We aim to spread awareness about the various terms that practitioners use when discussing learning difficulties in order to alleviate some of the anxiety and stress you may experience and place you on the path towards your child’s success. \n\nThea Slingland has been working with students that learn differently for more than twenty years. Starting with a BS in Early Childhood Growth and Development and a Masters in Education\, she is dual credentialed in Multiple Subjects and Education Specialist: Mild/Mod disabilities with an Added Authorization: Autism. Raised with a profoundly dyslexic brother\, Thea has seen firsthand the importance of early intervention and has specialized in this disorder in an effort to bring evidence-based\, multi-sensory learning best practice to her teaching and an educated voice to the growing conversation. \n\nDr. Misha Yajnik\, MD\, FAAP is a Board-Certified pediatrician practicing in the US. She completed her undergraduate studies at Youngstown State University in Ohio and obtained her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. With over a decade of experience caring for children from newborns to adolescents\, Dr. Yajnik is dedicated to her patients’ physical and emotional health. As a parent herself\, she believes in supporting others through the peaks and valleys of parenthood. Dr. Yajnik uses her Instagram account (@consciouspediatrician) to discuss emotional wellbeing\, conscious parenting\, and to combat misinformation. SUMMARY:Speak to a Pediatrician: Understanding How Your Child Learns
DESCRIPTION:Learn what to look for when you suspect learning difficulties—and get guidance from a professional on what to do next. \n \nAs a result of the last 18 tumultuous months\, we’re now experiencing a rapid acceleration in the emphasis on foundational learning skills. In a recent study\, Understood.org found that as a result of distance learning\, nearly three-quarters (72%) of parents have become aware of or noticed their children may have learning challenges or differences. Not only is awareness of learning differences growing\, but so is the anxiety and confusion that follows. SUMMARY:10 Things You Can Do This Summer to Build Executive Functioning Skills
DESCRIPTION:Learn effective strategies for improving executive function—the critical cognitive skills foundational to learning.\nSummary: \nExecutive Functioning is a set of critical cognitive skills that serve as the framework all learning stands upon. With the simple and effective strategies you’ll learn in this webinar\, you can help your kids naturally improve their executive function while having fun this summer. \nDetails: \nSummer is the perfect time for children to decompress—but did you know this time of the year can also help them gain learning momentum? Due to the stress and anxiety that the last two years has placed on learners\, many families are using this summer to recharge. While learners are in a relaxed state\, they are more receptive to learning\, leading them to experience better outcomes from explicit instruction in key skill areas. One such skill area is that of executive function (EF)—the set of cognitive skills that give us the ability to set goals\, plan\, and generally get things done. Individuals experiencing difficulty with executive function find it hard to sustain attention\, follow multiple-step directions\, regulate emotions\, and initiate tasks. While executive function impairment is often associated with neurological diagnoses (like ADHD\, ASD\, dyslexia\, or anxiety)\, executive dysfunction also commonly occurs without other accompanying learning differences or diagnoses. \nParents and educators alike are increasingly interested in the early detection of EF weaknesses\, and the age-appropriate strategies that can be leveraged to strengthen EF skills in their learners. In this webinar\, we’ll discuss ten simple steps to developing EF skills in your children this summer–particularly across each of the skill areas: \n\n\n Organization and planning\n Regulating emotions\n Attention and focus\n Initiating and completing tasks\n Self-monitoring\n\nThe webinar will consist of a 30-minute discussion with a psychologist\, a parent of neurodivergent learners\, and an Executive Functioning Coach followed by a live Q&A session that will allow attendees to directly interact with the speakers. \nAbout the Speakers \nThis webinar is presented by Jess Corinne\, the Head of Educational Services for Learnfully. \nDr. Karen Wilson is a clinical Neuropsychologist\, Director of West LA Neuropsychology\, and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Medical Psychology Assessment Center at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Behavior at UCLA. She is also the founder of ChildNEXUS.com\, a web application that provides information to parents who have children struggling with neurodevelopmental or social-emotional issues. \nElizabeth Boyarsky is a former English and history teacher at a school specializing in one-on-one instruction. She now serves as an Educational Specialist and EF Coach at Learnfully. She is innovative with her teaching approach\, using multimedia resources\, hands-on experiential learning\, and journalistic writing techniques. Finding the right tools to support students develop their executive function skills brings her a lot of joy. \nJessica Watson is a mom to several kids with learning differences\, including one with autism. As a homeschooling parent\, a published author in this space\, and a marketing specialist\, she has found a great balance between her personal life and her work with the neurodivergent community\, and adds a blend of proven and practical advice to our Executive Functioning panel. \n \nDid you miss this event?  Don’t worry\, you can watch the recorded video below! \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Speak to a Pediatrician: Understanding How Your Child Learns
DESCRIPTION:Learn what to look for when you suspect learning difficulties—and get guidance from a professional on what to do next. \nAs a result of the last 18 tumultuous months\, we’re now experiencing a rapid acceleration in the emphasis on foundational learning skills. \nTo help\, Learnfully and Evolve Health have partnered to give parents and caregivers clear insights into the signs of emerging learning differences\, like ADHD and dyslexia\, so that you are equipped to take the best next steps. \nThis event is perfect for parents and caregivers of kids grades 2nd-7th\, who want to find out more about Learning Differences and understand how their child learns. This event is designed around participant interests\, current knowledge\, and prerequisite surveys. Regular price registration is $75. Save $25 with early bird registration when you register by March 7th.   \nRegistration includes: \n\n\n An Executive Function Evaluation that identifies your child’s individual strengths & challenges\n Access to the live event\, where we will take a deep-dive into learning differences\, touching on a variety of topics including early signs of learning differences\, how and when to reach out to specialists\, the role of a pediatrician when addressing your concerns\, recognizing risk factors\, common LD myths\, and the steps to take to find the right support team\n Direct interaction with a pediatrician—ask questions\, join in the conversation\, and learn from other parents like you\n Additional resources and an opportunity to follow up with specialists to receive support and services after the event.\n\nAbout the Speakers\n\nDr. SUMMARY:A Caregiver's Guide to Social Emotional Learning in 2022
DESCRIPTION:Social emotional skills are vital to success both inside and outside the classroom\, learn why SEL is more important now than ever.\n\nThe U.S. Surgeon General recently issued a youth mental health crisis advisory—recommending that both educators and families work together to support the mental health of our youth. Even before the pandemic\, one in three highschool students experienced persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness according to a 2019 CDC report. Understanding how we can work together to support our youth has never been more important\, and that’s where Social and Emotional Learning comes in. \n\nSocial and emotional learning is the process of developing the interpersonal skills\, self-awareness\, and self-control that are essential for success both inside and outside the classroom. In the classroom\, these skills are necessary to help students manage their emotions\, work with others\, and set goals. Emotional and behavior difficulties and a lack of academic engagement can often be attributed to a deficit in SEL. There is much research to support that these foundational skills are as important (if not more important) than academic skills and especially essential to successfully transitioning into new grades and going back into the classroom after an arduous period of remote/hybrid learning. \n\nWhile more and more schools are incorporating SEL programs into classroom curriculum\, many caregivers are unfamiliar with SEL terminology\, benefits and strategies for strengthening these vital skills. In this webinar\, we will provide an overview of SEL\, provide research-based statistics on the benefits of SEL\, and provide strategies and recommendations for strengthening SEL at home.\n\nThis will be a 30-minute discussion followed by an opportunity for attendees to directly interact with the speakers through a live Q&A session. \n  \nAbout the Speakers \n\nDr. Sheila Murphy is the founder of Alma Bonita Animal Rescue and an educational consultant focused on equity\, diversity\, social-emotional learning\, and inclusion.  Sheila went into education specifically to advocate and address gaps in the system that failed her own three sons.  With a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership\, a Master’s Degree in Education\, a Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration\, and as a Certified Life Coach\, Sheila has focused her life’s work on giving to those who are most vulnerable in this world.\n\nThis webinar will be hosted by Jess Corinne\, the Head of Educational Services for Learnfully. Jess Corinne has dedicated her life to providing learning support to families using multisensory\, evidence-based curriculum. She has 15+ years of neurodiversity experience. At Learnfully\, she oversees the administration of academic assessments in order to create differentiated instructional plans for children with or without diagnoses. \n\nMissed the event?  Don’t worry\, you can watch the video recording here:
